Dr. Ebrahimnejad will present a talk titled “An Introduction to Design and Construction of Long-Span Bridges” on Friday November 16, 2012. This talk is hosted by Civil and Environmental Engineering Department in Center for Advanced Material Processing (CAMP) at Clarkson University. He gave his first talk titled “Applications of Wavelets in the Boundary Element Method for Elasticity Problems” on March 9, 2012 in Mechanical and Aeronautical Engineering Department. Here is the abstract for the upcoming talk
Long-Span Bridges are the key infrastructural elements of transportation and communication in the modern era. These amazing structures not only function as connecting pieces of separated paths but also they are engineering artistic masterpieces should be noticed more by the civil engineering communities. This talk aims to provide a general understanding of design issues related to different construction methods of long-span bridges. A comprehensive classification of bridges, design procedures and different structural systems for long-span bridges will be briefly discussed. Also, three common types of structural systems used in long-span bridges including Prestressed Concrete segmental bridges constructed by balanced cantilever method, various types of arch bridges and cable stayed bridges will be described. Moreover, a brief description on launching construction method and mechanical devices used in bridges, such as elastomeric bearings, dampers, shock transmission units and expansion joints will be presented
